Paying as Ordered is not Optional in Mobile, Alabama
Please accept this as a public service announcement: If you are ordered to pay money in Domestic Relations Court in Mobile County, Alabama, your options are limited. You may:
- File a motion to alter, amend, or vacate a new Final Order;
- File an appeal of a Final Order to the Civil Court of Appeals in Montgomery in a timely manner;
- File a petition to modify the Order if your circumstances have changed; or
- Pay the money as ordered.
You may not, however, just not pay your child support, alimony, or other judgments that have been rendered against you. It may take time and effort, but the other side will eventually catch up to you. You may be found in contempt. You may be ordered to pay interest and attorney’s fees. You may be ordered to jail.
Whatever you do, don’t just ignore a Court Order. This is not one of those problems that, if you ignore it long enough, it will go away. Even 50Cent has to pay his child support:
The good news is that, often times, there are things that can be done to avoid the harsher consequences of not being able to pay as ordered. Call me at (251)445-0891 or email me at: ron@mcbaylaw.com, and we’ll do something. The longer you wait, the worse it will be. Don’t wait for the contempt action to show up with from the Sheriff.
