I grew up loving Clint Eastwood westerns. Everyone knows that The Outlaw Josey Wales is the greatest western of all time. That being said, one of the early scenes of another classic, The Good, The Bad, The Ugly, really made an impression on me as a youngster. “Angel Eyes,” played by Lee Van Cleef, assassinates a man and his eldest son at the behest of another character. However, before the victims faces his demise, he pays Angel Eyes, resulting in what Angel Eyes believes to be a contract on the life of the man who originally paid to kill the victim. Still with me?
Angel Eyes returns to the first man to report the job done. He relays the story of the victim paying him, intending him to kill the first man. They laugh, the other man nervously, and then Angel Eyes says something to the effect that, “You know me…once I’m paid to do a job, I do it.” He then executes the first man and moves on.
When you hire an attorney to represent you, you have options with regard to payment. Some folks like putting down a retainer and getting billed at an hourly rate. You’ll get a monthly statement that will show how your attorney worked on your case in six minute increments over the course of the month. I offer that option, but I prefer flat fees.
With a flat fee, you never have to worry about calling or emailing me. The meter isn’t running. I have a vested interest in handling your case with the utmost efficiency. If I underestimate the cost, I eat it; plain and simple. Once I’m paid to do the job, I do it. Here’s a quick read on someone else’s take on the subject:
I also offer unbundled, or a la carte services with limited scope representation. Just want me to negotiate a settlement? No problem. Need help answering a complaint? Got it. Pay for what you need. We’re only bound by our imagination and the Rules of Professional Ethics.
Give me a call and let’s talk about your needs and how I can help you take on your legal burden. My number is (251)445-0891, or you can email me at ron@mcbaylaw.com.
